However painting newly installed rough cut lumber can present a challenge because of its jagged and splintered surfaces.

Your choice of roller cover depends on the type of paint latex or oil and the surface you re painting smooth rough or textured. A cold water pressure washer can be used for large areas of siding. Use a stiff bristled brushed to scrub away anything that may resist coming off. Sunlight degrades the unfinished wood surface thus it will never hold paint as well as fresh wood.

In many markets like new england for example painted siding is the preferred look. It is not all about protection. Prime the siding with a heavy acrylic primer. It will also begin removing grime that has accumulated in the rough surface of the wall.
