Nylon is a tough stable engineering thermoplastic used to replace metal bearings and bushings with high strength good rigidity dimensional stability resistance to moisture solvents and other chemicals. It is ideal for bearings gears and wear pads. It is used to cast plastic parts for machines because of its mechanical properties and wear resistance. These materials resist corrosion and provide electrical insulation.

Nylon is also known by brand names including sustamid tecast zytel ertalon nycast nyloil tecamid and nylatron. Nylon is one of the oldest and most widely used engineered mechanical plastics.
