This aluminum cap is the finished product and does not require. Reuse a vent or flashing only if it is like new. A shingle over vent is installed over the ridge of a roof and is covered over by asphalt shingle caps that match the surrounding roof shingles. Vent flashing is a cylindrical piece of flashing that fits right around the vent. Continue the next row of shingles cutting a hole for the vent pipe.

Press new shingles onto the caulk and use nails at the top of each shingle to fully secure them to the roof. Plumbing vent boot flashing. However on the roof of my outbuilding and the roof of my parents house i noticed that the shingles at the bottom edge of the vent are filled in over the lower part of the flange cut around the profile of the vent. Glue down shingles to cover the bottom of the vent. Place a line of roofing tar or caulk on top of the vent s flange or its bottom flap using a caulk gun. If more than about 35 of your roof is going to need repair due to wind or hail especially if it s already 12 years old the cost effective decision might be to replace it all.

Leave the old valley flashing in place and install new over it. Cover the entire flange with shingles to integrate it better into the roof. Soffit vents are one of the most popular intake vent styles. Use some asphalt roof cement under the cut shingle and around.
